Community Gardener
The Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden is a Permaculture Learning and Demonstration site and has become a vibrant community garden welcoming a diverse range of people from the local community as well as providing a therapeutic outdoor space for the African Caribbean clients at the Nubian Life Centre.
We are currently looking for a community garden gardener to help us move our community project into the next stage of its development. The permaculture community garden has been developed to create a community asset and to encourage a diverse range of local residents and visitors to participate in our gardening workshops, learn, share and enjoy gardening with the aim of bringing about personal growth and greener communities.
The post-holder will work as part of the Adopt a Garden Partnership with Fulham Good Neighbours; to further develop the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden into a thriving hub of volunteer gardening and educational initiatives.
Aims and Objectives of the Role

To publicise and promote the community garden to residents, community groups and statutory organisations such as GP’s

To coordinate volunteer gardening sessions.

The delivery of a range of workshops, to encourage people to grow and eat fruit and vegetables

To assist with the implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems and project reporting

Ensuring information from the gardening clubs is recorded

Publicity: to update the organisation’s Facebook and Twitter accounts; promoting the activities and development of the community Garden via the website; sending out email updates about the gardening clubs
Person Specification:
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gardener, who is able to work with a wide range of people from all backgrounds; with a recognised horticulture qualification and/or wide experience of organic, permaculture gardening and experience of working in community or therapeutic gardening. They will also have the ability to devise and deliver horticultural training.
Key competencies required for the role

Responsible for maintaining the permaculture garden

Helps to run the Gardening Clubs organising work in the garden for people who attend

Runs educational workshops to teach the local community about growing

Runs the Growing Together project to facilitate local people to grow at home

Runs gardening clubs with the clients at Nubian Life
-
Teaches the staff at Nubian Life about the garden and growing so they are able to organise more garden activities with the clients

Develops community outreach

Posts onto social media
Desirable requirements:

An appropriate qualification in gardening
-
Experience of working in a permaculture garden or has had permaculture training
-
Experience of working independently
-
Teaching experience/qualification
-
Knowledge of the local area

This role is self-employed so you will need to supply a UTR number
7.5 hours per week (3 Saturdays + 1 afternoon + evening per month) @ £13 per hour
