We at Nubian Life wish to express our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We have been profoundly impacted by the tragic and unnecessary killing of George Floyd. His public slaughter pours salt on the open wounds of racism that so many of us endure every day of our lives.
His death doesn’t just demand change for the police, it’s a demand for structural reform across society.
For us at Nubian Life it speaks to the urgent need for reform within adult social care and health, to improve outcomes for older people from black communities.
There is an immediate need for local authorities here in the UK to forensically examine their own structures and procedures to remove inequalities that have existed for decades. It is unacceptable that in the 21st century our life expectancy and wellbeing is determined by our ethnicity and socio economic conditions.
